Zumba! The programme that has made people all over the world dance their way to fitness has been a part of my life since June 2011. As one of the first ZIN-certified instructors in the city, I was privileged to be one of the first people to offer Zumba classes in Kolkata.
Apart from fitness, Zumba has been important for me in two ways. With Zumba, I have been able to reach out and spread the sheer joy of joy of dance to many more people. This is because Zumba uses dance to bring about fitness, but it is not about performance. There is no intimidation factor, no competition, no performance anxiety. It is the joy of being able to respond to music without worrying about exact technique. Yet, this has specific goals. The only difference? The achievable is fitness.
For me, Zumba is a session, not a class. It's like some friends join me while I move to catchy numbers - and together, we dance our way to fitness. And when class is over, everyone walks out happier and energetic.
My Zumba friends range in age from  to  and the energy in our class is infectious. Believe me when I say that Zumba is an addiction - but a very healthy one.
